Volunteer for the 2010 Como Cookout! 

We can't have a successful event in September without your help!  All volunteers receive a free Cookout t-shirt!

  • Como Tidbits  - periodic email alerts about events and issues affecting the neighborhood.  Neighbors have been able to directly effect the outcome of many developments in Como because of the timely nature of these alerts.

Como Green Village - an umbrella concept that SECIA is promoting in the urban island of Southeast Como in Minneapolis (an industrial, railroad, and highway-locked neighborhood) to provide a sustainable a balance between the environment, economics, and social justice.

  • Safety - organizes the safety walks, works with the Student Liaisons and the 2nd Precinct Crime Prevention Specialist, tracks current crime trend, and promotes preventive measures.

  • Livability & Housing - works on reducing the number of chronic noisy parties in Como and improving communications with University students in conjunction with the Student Liaisons. In addition, the SECIA Neighborhood Coordinator works on enforcing inspections and monitors the home loan program. Email the Neighborhood Coordinator

  • Resource Center - plans community event programming for the neighborhood, including the Como Cookout, the SE Como Garage Sales, Move In Move Out (MIMO), etc. Provides planning and space for committee meetings. Works with interns and the Student Liaisons on various neighborhood projects, provides meeting space for Minneapolis City Council member Cam Gordon on 2nd Tuesday of each month (9:30 to 11:30 am), and publishes The COMO-tion and Como Tidbits.

  • Gardening & Greening - the Community Garden Organizer works with residents to plan, plant, and maintain the public community gardens in SE Como and encourages use of rain gardens, rain barrels, and other green initiatives on private property in the neighborhood.

  • Air Quality -  the Environmental Coordinator works with the Environmental Committee, the City, and local businesses and residents to track air emissions in the area and develop Good Neighbor agreements with surrounding industry.

  • Transportation - the SECIA board works to improve traffic calming measures and safe bike routes throughout Como.  Contact us for more info.
